    School Choice Scholarships (vouchers):
Chesterton Academy of St. Scholastica (CASS) has applied to be a recipient of parental school choice through the Indiana Choice Scholarship Program for the 2025-26 school year. This program provides financial awards (vouchers) to families of eligible K-12 students in order to offset the cost of tuition at private and religious schools.

You can view 2025-26 income limits and estimated voucher amounts here.

The scholarships are funded by utilizing a portion of state tax dollars allocated for your child to follow him/her to the non-public school of your family's choice. As parents/guardians, once you have enrolled your child at CASS, if you choose to apply for the Choice scholarship, we will support you in applying through your provision of documentation which gives proof of income, household size, and residency in the state of Indiana (often this is just the first few pages of your most recent tax return).

Once you provide this information and we determine that you qualify, the state of Indiana will allocate the voucher funds to CASS on your child's behalf and CASS will then adjust for any remaining tuition balance.

The Board at Chesterton Academy of St. Scholastica will evaluate each year whether to re-apply as partners with families in the use of Indiana Choice Scholarship program funds. The mission, philosophy, faith life, and curriculum of CASS is at the forefront of our service to the community at large, and to our high school youth in particular. Indiana Code protects these rights of nonpublic Choice-eligible schools.

CASS will take great care in judiciously (and frequently) examining the relationship between our mission and state deliverables in order to determine whether the partnership will be renewed in subsequent years.

  • As of Jan 1, 2023, Indiana has increased the 20% tax credit for College 529 plan contributions up to $1,500.  Additionally, K-12 private school tuition has been considered a qualifying withdrawal and exempt from both federal and state (IN) taxes since 2018.  Taken together, these two changes in recent years effectively make it possible for Indiana taxpayers to save 20% on private K-12 tuition by using the tax benefits of a College 529 plan!

Quick math on ~$3,000 Chesterton out of pocket tuition:

    • Invest $3,000 into CollegeChoice529by Dec 31, 2024

    • Receive $600 back as a credit on state tax return in Feb/Mar 2025

    • Use $3,000 tax-free disbursement to pay tuition by August 1, 2025

    • Net out of pocket cost of tuition ~$2,400

If you do not have a student in 2025/26, contributing to a College 529 plan and receiving the 20% tax credit is still a great choice to begin saving for future K-12 tuition or future higher education expenses.  It is advisable to consult a local tax professional to determine your personal tax situation.

  • New Student information will be coming your way! We can’t wait for what Our Lord has in store!
